Arcade Fire Mixtape
Dedicated to ChatdiMuse who has not heard.
Not much logic to the order as I wanted to cobble it together fast before I leave on vacation, though it does keep mostly to a chronological passage through the albums. In doing this I discovered that I do in fact love every single song they have made, and no matter how many times I have heard this music (and it is truly ridiculous how much I have heard this music) it never gets old to me. They have found the germ of song, that sublime ingredient of music that is indestructible. They speak to me of a world on the verge of collapse and the melancholic musing of the world already past. I love Dylan, I love Cohen, but really, Arcade Fire is the music of my generation, of my particular neurosis. I start and end with The Suburbs, and select liberally from the same album, which, while I understand to most maybe is not their most ambitious album, to me hits a sweet spot of sound and meaning that eclipses all else they have done. I leave the best for last.
As with all my mixtapes, you can listen to the stream on my streampad at the bottom of my tumblr (and if you are so inclined, can listen to other mixtapes I have put together clicking on the mixtape tag of this post).
